Despite having a solid campaign with the Chicago Bears in 2024, longtime Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen still finds himself without a team for the upcoming 2025 season.
Allen, who ranks second among the Chargers' all-time leaders in receptions (904) and receiving yardage (10,530), trailing only legendary tight end Antonio Gates in both categories, also ranked second for Chicago in those same categories a season ago, catching 70 passes for 744 yards. The future Hall of Famer also led the team in receiving scores, with seven.
The only logical explanation for Allen not securing a contract just yet would have to be his age, as he turned 33 on April 27. But if a prediction from Bleacher Report's Moe Moton comes to fruition, the six-time Pro Bowler will soon be catching passes from Aaron Rodgers as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Here's a little of what Moton had to say:
"As ESPN's Peter Schrager pointed out, the Pittsburgh Steelers are making win-now moves.
"This offseason, they have added multiple veterans with decorated resumes, signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Darius Slay, and acquiring wideout DK Metcalf, cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith via trades.
"The Steelers should make another move for a wide receiver to help Rodgers. Keenan Allen could fit within their receiver rotation.
"Allen is capable of lining up on the perimeter or the inside, allowing him to coexist with Calvin Austin III, who made big plays out of the slot last season."
Does Allen to the Steelers make sense? Of course it does. But if this prediction comes to pass, Mike Williams may want to give his former teammate a call to let him know what he's getting into with Mr. Rodgers.
Mike Williams was thrown under by the bus by Aaron Rodgers during his short stint with the Jets
Williams, of course, was released by the Bolts after seven seasons in March 2024 and signed with Rodgers' New York Jets six days later.
He didn't play a big part in Gang Green's offense, catching just 10 passes on 14 targets for 145 yards in the first five weeks of the season.
In the Jets' Week 6 Monday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers, on a pass intended for Williams, threw an interception late in the fourth quarter that effectively sealed a 23-20 win for Buffalo.
Afterward, Rodgers essentially threw Williams under the bus in the infamous "red line" presser, basically implying that Williams had run the wrong route and deserved the blame for the pick.
Over the next three weeks, Williams was targeted just four times, recording two receptions, and was then traded to the Steelers, with whom he closed out the year. The 30-year-old, of course, is now back with the Bolts, agreeing to a one-year, $3 million deal on March 12.
Williams was as classy as can be in the aftermath of the trade, even going so far as to say it was "cool" to play with Rodgers, even putting the blame for the lack of chemistry between the two on himself, saying, "Me not being able to transition in as quick is probably what went wrong."
One has to wonder, though, what Williams truly thinks about Rodgers and if he would want Allen to go through what he did in his short run with the four-time NFL MVP.
