It was announced that Justin Herbert had successful surgery to stabilize his left hand metacarpal bone fracture on Monday. Herbert is now considered "day-to-day" by the team and more updates on his status for the Eagles game will be given later in the week.

After the game on Sunday, Herbert said that he was operating as if he is still going to play against the Eagles despite the hand injury. "I'm treating it as if I'm playing on Monday," Herbert said. " I think they're very hopeful for that."

Justin Herbert's injury history tells us he will suit up for the Chargers against the Eagles.

Herbert has a lengthy history of gutting it out through injuries. In 2022, Herbert played through most of the season with a rib fracture he suffered in Week 2 against the Chiefs. At the end of the season, it was revealed that he also played through a torn labrum.

In 2023, Herbert broke different fingers on both hands. He played through a broken left middle finger until it fully recovered while wearing a splint device. His season was shut down with four games remaining when he broke the right index finger on his throwing hand.

The Chargers were 5-8 and veering far out of the playoff picture when the decision was made. Less than a week later, GM Tom Telesco and Brandon Staley were fired after a 63-21 loss to Las Vegas.

Herbert suffered a high ankle sprain against the Panthers last year that he reaggravated a few times in the following games. He still did not miss a game in the 2024 campaign.

That brings us to the present day. Herbert's left metacarpal fracture is in a different in location and probably slightly more difficult to deal with than his left middle finger fracture from 2023. But after having surgery to stabilize it with some form of pins/plates/screws inserted, Herbert shouldn't have too much trouble in terms of mobility with his left hand.

The next month or two for Herbert in recovery will be more about pain tolerance. That's something that LA's quarterback has persevered through in the past on several occasions.

The Chargers' offense will have to adapt to Herbert's injury. They're certainly not going to be able to run quite as much of Greg Roman's offense under center. Play action concepts will be somewhat harder to execute on, or at least require more imagination out of pistol/shotgun looks.

Herbert says he intends to play vs. the Eagles-and history says he'll make good on that statement.
