Head coach Jim Harbaugh didn't make any assurances about who'll be under center when his Los Angeles Chargers host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. However, he did confirm who will be protecting the quarterback's blindside in this interconference Monday Night Football showdown and beyond: Jamaree Salyer.
Salyer made his second start of the 2025 NFL campaign, and first at left tackle, in the Chargers' 31-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. By the sound of it, he fared well enough to stick in that spot moving forward.
Harbaugh affirmed that Salyer will continue to serve as the Chargers' starting left tackle when addressing the media ahead of their primetime clash with Philadelphia. It was made quite clear that this won't be a temporary change, either.
Jim Harbaugh fires up Chargers fans by confirming Jamaree Salyer will start at LT for rest of season
Chargers fans and beat writers alike have been wondering why this switch didn't come sooner, and understandably so. Salyer has played some of his best football when given a chance to man left tackle. Harbaugh acknowledged this personnel blunder, though he pointed to several factors that have gone into the decision-making process:
""In the middle [of the season], there was a time where [Salyer] was working through something. There was a time where he was the sixth offensive lineman, used in the interior, and that's when Joe [Alt] was healthy at left tackle. But since then, and increased health, that has been the move; him exclusively over there to the left side and at tackle. It was very difficult ... when he was right guard [and] left tackle ... so [I] take responsibility for that and could've done that better had I known that Joe wasn't going to be there.""Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh
Circumstances aside, it's better late than never. Harbaugh took the longer, not-so-scenic route to a realization the Chargers faithful had come to a while ago. Nevertheless, he left no doubt about Salyer's role as Los Angeles looks to complete their playoff push.
"That's been the move, yeah," Harbaugh stated when asked directly whether Salyer will stay at left tackle for the rest of the year.
The Chargers have had a revolving door at the position sans standout edge blockers Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt. Yet, it appears that the solution has been right in front of them all along. Salyer's presence has brought much-needed stability and reliability.
Pro Football Focus gave Salyer an above-average 72.2 pass-blocking grade ($) for his efforts against the Raiders. He allowed two pressures, one hurry and a sack across 28 snaps in said situations.
