Editor's note: It was reported after publication that Sherrone Moore has been detained by police for an investigation into potential charges. It was also reported that Michigan fired Moore with cause due to an "inappropriate relationship with a staff member."

Jim Harbaugh is all about loyalty. That's why he brought former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to the LA Chargers with him and rehired his old offensive coordinator from the San Francisco 49ers, Greg Roman.

If you're one of Harbaugh's guys then you will have a place on his coaching staff. And one of his guys is now out of a job and may look to make the same exact leap to the NFL that Minter did when Harbaugh left Michigan.

Michigan fired Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, just two years after he took over for the departing Harbaugh. Moore served as the offensive coordinator prior to his elevation with his time on the Michigan staff dating back to 2018.

Don't be surprised if (or when) Moore gets announced as the newest member of the Chargers coaching staff next season. And heck, he might just replace a position coach fans have seen enough of after just two years.

Sherrone Moore could potentially replace Mike Devlin as Chargers' offensive line coach

The first offensive coach that jumps to mind is Greg Roman. And while fans want to see him replaced, Moore is not the answer there. Moore struggled as a play-caller without Harbaugh in his two years as head coach and would not be an instant upgrade over Roman.

Could Moore develop into an NFL-caliber play-caller at some point? Sure. But making that leap and giving him that job right away could cause more harm than good for a Chargers team that is competing for a Super Bowl.

Instead, Harbaugh could theoretically create room for Moore on the Chargers coaching staff by parting ways with a position coach, offensive line coach Mike Devlin. The Chargers' offensive line has been woeful both seasons that Devlin has been on staff, and it may be time for the Chargers to move on.

Yes, the Chargers have dealt with tackle injuries that would have derailed any team this season. But nobody on the offensive line has gotten better under Devlin's watch. In cases like Mekhi Becton's, they've gotten actively worse. Whether it be something as simple as technique or something as complex as picking up blitz packages, the Chargers' offensive line room has shown little to no growth.

Devlin does have Harbaugh ties as he coached under Roman (and John Harbaugh) on the Baltimore Ravens but he's by no means an irreplaceable Harbaugh guy. After watching the last two seasons, Harbaugh should want to spice up that room to protect Herbert.

Moore, paired with assistant offensive line coach Nick Hardwick, could be the solution to that problem. There's no guarantee it will be perfect, but Moore did coach the offensive line for several years in Michigan before moving up the coaching tree.

And if there is one thing Michigan has been known for over the years its an elite offensive line. Granted, the situation is different in NCAA, but Moore knows what a great offensive line looks like. Harbaugh knows that, and may look to tap into it.
