With their 2025 campaign now officially at an end following a 16-3 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots in the Wild Card Round, thus extending their playoff losing streak to four games, the Los Angeles Chargers must now turn their full attention to the 2026 offseason.
And what an offseason it could turn out to be, as the Bolts are currently projected by Over The Cap to have more than $103 million in available salary cap space, the most of any team in the NFL, but it should be noted that the figure drops to just under $85.7 million once the money needed for this year's draft picks is taken into account. Nevertheless, it's a lot of scratch.
That said, however, the reason the Chargers have said scratch is due to the fact that they have 28 players set to become free agents, 22 of whom will be of the unrestricted variety. And we're not talking insignificant personnel here, as several key contributors on both sides of the football are in line to test the open market if things come to that.
The most high-profile name on the list, of course, is Khalil Mack, who one would assume would be welcomed back if he opts to suit up for a 13th NFL season, although it would likely have to be at a discounted rate. But Mack certainly isn't the only defender the Bolts need to worry about, as the list also includes starters Odafe Oweh, Teair Tart, Da'Shawn Hand, and Denzel Perryman.
On the other side of things, there could be some big changes to the offensive line, which simply has to be a thing after the beating Justin Herbert took against New England, as Zion Johnson, Trey Pipkins III, Bobby Hart, Jamaree Salyer, and Trevor Penning are all unrestricted free agents, and Austin Deculus is a restricted free agent.
Other notable names on the offensive side of the ball are Najee Harris, backup quarterback Trey Lance, tight ends Tucker Fisk and Tyler Conklin, and, of course, legendary wideout Keenan Allen. It'll be interesting to see how the Chargers handle Allen, who had a solid regular season with 81 catches for 777 yards and four touchdowns. Getting that kind of production for just $3 million isn't easy, so don't be surprised to see No. 13 back in a Bolts uniform for one more season.
