There are several former LA Chargers who remain unsigned as training camp gets ready to rock. Wide receiver Keenan Allen is the most notable of this group as the pipe dream of him coming back to the Chargers has been squashed.
It's abundantly clear that Allen deserves a spot in training camp somewhere and he will almost certainly get that. He is not alone, though, as there are other prominent former Chargers who surprisingly remain unsigned.
Right behind Allen in the prominence department is former Chargers linebacker Kyzir White. White still does not have a job after his two-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals and it's hard to see why. Wherever it may be, there is no denying that White deserves to be in the NFL.
Former Chargers LB Kyzir White deserves some kind of training camp invitation
White doesn't necessarily make sense for the Chargers but there are plenty of teams that could use his services. The Chargers are set at the linebacker position, although a reunion with White wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the Bolts ever have to scramble because of injuries.
White realistically should not even be on the market long enough for that to happen. While he had a down season with the Cardinals in 2024, he has more than proven that his versatile play is productive to an NFL defense.
He may no longer be a tangible every-down starting back unless he makes strides in his pass coverage. However, he absolutely brings value to a defense as a rotational linebacker, especially with a coach that knows how to get the most out of him.
The New Orleans Saints jump off the page as an option because of the ties to former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. However, Staley started to favor Kenneth Murray toward the end of the 2021 season (for better or for worse) and the Chargers opted not to bring White back on a cheap deal. Staley may not be a huge fan of White.
The Indianapolis Colts are another team that could make sense. Head coach Shane Steichen crossed paths with White in LA and the Colts have a need at linebacker.
There also could be a path where White essentially replaces another former Chargers linebacker in Tennessee. The Titans quickly got rid of Kenneth Murray after one season and may look to bring in a veteran linebacker for cheap during training camp.
Regardless of the destination, there is no denying that White deserves some kind of training camp invite sooner rather than later.
