The Los Angeles Chargers are continuing to get rid of the stink from the Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco era of the franchise. While Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz began this last offseason, this was always going to be a multiple-season job if they wanted to build a Super Bowl contender.

One of the new regime's first decrees upon arrival was to revamp the running back room, but they took an even bigger step to retool the depth behind Justin Herbert this offseason. This included the addition of Trey Lance after letting Easton Stick walk in free agency.

Stick landed with the Atlanta Falcons, where he was set to make a push for the third-string quarterback spot behind Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately, he was not able to make that happen.

Falcons release quarterback Easton Stick

On Tuesday morning, as the NFL roster cut deadline nears, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Falcons were releasing Stick. This news came despite him being the leader in passing yards this preseason.

Chargers fans know all too well what kind of player their former fifth-round pick turned out to be. While at first, he was a promising backup to Herbert, he floundered during his lone opportunity to start in the NFL.

In 2023, he played the majority of five games, and the team went 0-5, scoring more than 12 points on just two occasions. He was also responsible for the Las Vegas Raiders' 63-21 beatdown of the Bolts on Thursday Night Football, which got Telesco and Staley fired.

All told, in six NFL appearances, he has completed 64.0% of his passes for 1,133 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran 27 times for 144 yards and tacked on a rushing touchdown. However, he was sacked 14 times and fumbled five times.

Overall, those numbers do not look bad on paper. But Chargers fans know exactly what kind of impact he can have on a game. If he lands with the right team, he could potentially blossom back into a high-end backup, but thankfully, it won't be in Los Angeles with Lance now in the fold.

Harbaugh and Co. have to feel good about their decision to upgrade the quarterback room this offseason, as, clearly, they are not the only team in the league that saw major faults in Stick. Now, the Chargers' former backup will look to find new life once again in the NFL.
