Several 2025 NFL Draft prospects are turning heads at the Senior Bowl this week, some of which project to be great fits for the LA Chargers. Not every standout performance is a good one for the Chargers, though, as some players may be playing their way out of the Bolts' range.
The Chargers are naturally going to miss out on several Senior Bowl standouts with the No. 22 pick in the draft. The most painful, though, are the ones who were previously projected to be in the Chargers' range only to move up to a higher selection.
That is exactly what may be happening with Marshall edge rusher Mike Green. Green falling to the No.22 pick already would have been considered a slight fall, but now, it feels impossible.
Green has been tearing it up at the Senior Bowl and is one of the most physical dominant defensive linemen in this class. At this rate, Green feels like a lock to be a top-15 pick, and may even creep his way into the top 10.
Mike Green's Senior Bowl will keep him from ever falling to the Chargers
For those unfamiliar, Josh Conerly Jr. is one of the best tackle prospects in this class and is a surefire candidate to be taken in the first round. Green dominating Connerly has much more to do with Green's potential as a top-tier edge rusher than it does any draft concerns about Conerly.
Green ranked 23rd on Daniel Jeremiah's recent top-50 big board and chances are he will rank much higher in Jeremiah's next update. Some outlets, such as Pro Football Focus, have already gone as far to rank Green as the 11th prospect in the draft. Momentum is already building for Marshall's edge rusher to climb the draft board.
Edge rusher may not be the top first-round need that comes to mind for the Chargers but it absolutely could be a position the team takes at 22. Joey Bosa feels like an obvious cut candidate and even if Khalil Mack returns, the Chargers need to inject more youth into the room for the future.
The Chargers haven't taken a defensive player in the first round since Kenneth Murray in 2020. If the top two tight ends in the draft are off the board then edge rusher might be the most likely position the Chargers pivot too.
At one point, Green seemed like a dream pivot for the Chargers to make because of his extremely high ceiling as a pass rusher. Unfortunately, that ceiling is showing up a bit too early, and may take the Chargers out of the equation altogether.
