The Los Angeles Chargers hold the 22nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and have plenty of directions they could go in with the pick. Will they add to their defense or will they give Justin Herbert some weapons as he enters his sixth NFL season and second with head coach Jim Harbaugh?

Field Yates of ESPN has the Chargers making both Herbert and Harbaugh smile in his latest mock draft, as Colston Loveland, a tight end out of Michigan, was the Bolts' selection at 22nd overall. Yates connected these two because not only does it reunite Loveland with his college head coach but the Chargers have a need for a starting tight end and Loveland could fill that role.

Loveland played with Harbaugh for two years in Ann Arbor before the head coach departed for the NFL and was a part of the 2023 National Championship squad. He spent one more year with the Wolverines, tallying 56 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns in 2024.

Chargers add valuable weapons for Justin Herbert in recent mock draft

In the second round of Yates' mock draft, the Chargers select Stanford (funny enough, another former college that Harbaugh coached at) wide receiver Elic Ayomanor, who has put up at least 800 receiving yards in each of his last two seasons with six touchdowns both years. There's no doubt that Herbert would be thrilled about two new weapons joining the team.

The first-round pick makes perfect sense for the Bolts because, again, it helps them add to the tight end position and reunites Harbaugh with a player he coached at the collegiate level. Both picks make perfect sense because it means that Herbert will have weapons, something the team failed to do for him a year ago.

Both picks are truly an everybody wins type of situation. Harbaugh is happy because he'll get to coach Loveland again, Herbert is happy because he'll have a 6'6" target at his disposal, and will get another weapon to throw to as well. Everyone is happy here.
