The Los Angeles Chargers made a splash with their first pick of Day 3, selecting Brenen Thompson out of Mississippi State with the 105th overall pick.
For a team in need of an additional pass-catching threat, the Thompson pick makes sense. He has the speed and potential special-teams upside to make an immediate impact on the roster as a rookie. It remains to be seen how he'll fit in alongside KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre' Harris in the back half of Los Angeles' receiving corps, or if his addition will have any impact on Keenan Allen's free agency.
But Derwin James' reaction to the pick, which he expressed through two separate posts on X, was hilariously perfect.
Let’s goo great draft so far ⚡️⚡️

Although James (a known Madden savant) seems mostly concerned with Thompson's speed rating in the video game, Chargers fans should be ecstatic to have a receiver with this caliber of speed (in real life, no less) added to their offensive arsenal.
Brenen Thompson could be a scary addition to the Chargers' receiving corps
James was no slowpoke coming out of college, having posted a 4.47 40-yard-dash time in his turn at the NFL Scouting Combine. Thompson is on a completely different level, though. He posted the fastest time out of all prospects at this year's Combine— a blazing 4.26 seconds.
He led the entire SEC in receiving yards in 2025 with Mississippi State, posting a final line of 57 receptions, 1,054 yards, and six touchdowns through 13 games. Although he took just one return during his college career, he also has the potential to replace Derius Davis as the Chargers' kick and punt returner, granting him an opportunity to earn immediate snaps at the NFL level.
If there's any offensive coordinator that knows how to utilize speed, however, it's Mike McDaniel. His stated goal is to create simpler completions for Justin Herbert, and Thompson's ability to take the top off opposing defenses and create space for himself underneath should quickly endear him within McDaniel's scheme.
If Lambert-Smith and Harris can each take strides in their development, Thompson could be the piece that completes the Chargers' receiving corps.
For Derwin, who presumably plays as the Chargers in Madden, Thompson's video-game rating is likely of high importance. For Los Angeles, Thompson's speed could quickly prove to be a formidable addition to their offensive arsenal.
