As the Los Angeles Chargers' offseason continues and we inch closer to training camp and preseason, fan favorite wide receiver Keenan Allen is still unsigned. The Chargers have a crowded receiver room so a reunion might not be in the cards.

Allen has made it pretty clear that he's only interested in playing in Los Angeles, but as we all know, money talks. If another teams come swooping in, would it be enough to pry him away from his Chargers-or-retirement talk?

If so, the Indianapolis Colts might make sense as a landing spot for Allen. He has a relationship with current Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who spent time as Allen's offensive coordinator in L.A. This, along with Alec Pierce's offseason surgery, are reasons that James Boyd of The Athletic could see Allen as a fit in Indy.

"Alec Pierce, the Colts’ top receiver, may not be ready for the start of training camp after undergoing left ankle surgery in late March," Boyd wrote. "As Pierce continues rehab, his absence this offseason may make the Colts consider signing a veteran receiver for a little insurance. Keenan Allen is someone to keep in mind. The 34-year-old previously played for Colts coach Shane Steichen when Steichen was the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator."

Keenan Allen could absolutely make sense for the Colts

As of now, the Colts are looking at a wide receiver room that consists of Pierce, Josh Downs, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as their starters. The depth behind those guys aren't great. If Pierce has to miss an extended period of time, Allen could slot right in as a starter. His experience would be great for the young guys on the roster as well.

The question remains if moving to Indiana is something Allen would be interested in exploring. If he wants to remain in Los Angeles, that's one big red X against the Colts. But, again, money talks, and Allen's previous relationship with Steichen could help them out in this situation.

Allen has already played for another team, spending the 2024 season with the Bears in Chicago, so him in another uniform wouldn’t be a new experience for Chargers fans. That being said, it's always weird to see a fan favorite donning another team's colors.

If Allen still wants to play and the L.A. teams aren't interested in bringing him on, however, Chargers fans won't blame him for trying things out with a new team.
