While most of the focus in training camp is on things the Los Angeles Chargers can control, it is tough not to look ahead, even if just a little bit.
Los Angeles' Week 1 opponent is a familiar one in the Kansas City Chiefs, but recent training camp happenings might suggest the Bolts are inching toward a significant advantage. As of late, the Chiefs' wide receiver room is, well, less than 100 percent let's just say.
The most recent incident led second-year pro Xavier Worthy into concussion protocol. Worthy now joins Hollywood Brown in the group of banged-up wide receivers, although the latter isn't considered to be a serious injury.
The Chargers would face a depleted Chiefs offense if Week 1 happened today
There is no telling how long Worthy will be out and, while Brown's injury isn't supposed to be of epic proportion, it's still worth mentioning. Brown is nursing an ankle injury.
It is also worth mentioning that Skyy Moore is dealing with a hamstring issue, but he's also a player who could be on the roster bubble at this point. And, that isn't the last wide receiver who could potentially be missing in action for the Chiefs.
For all we know, Worthy and Brown could be fine by Week 1, but the Chiefs' no. 1 wideout very well could be absent.
Rashee Rice still hasn't been handed a suspension from the NFL after his official sentence was given, but you can bet it's coming. Now, will it come before the start of the season? That's the bigger question. If it does, then Rice is obviously going to miss the Week 1 season opener between Kansas City and Los Angeles.
The Chiefs will still have Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, of course. But, with a possibly-depleted wide receiver room and questions along the offensive line, the Chargers should be ready to take whatever advantage they might get in this one.
L.A. will take all the help it can get against the Chiefs, too, as Justin Herbert is just a career 2-7 against Kansas City in his career.
