For the first time in a while, the Chargers have an offseason holdout. Second-round pick WR Tre Harris did not report to camp and is officially holding out from the team, per Ian Rapoport. Saturday was the training camp report day for LA's rookies.

With the Chargers' rookies being the first to report in the NFL, Harris' official holdout stance is notable. 30 of 32 2025 second-round picks remain unsigned. It could be a sign that other second-round pick rookies may not report to training camps around the league.

Other rookies may now hold out as a result of Chargers WR Tre Harris' decision.

ESPN's Adam Schefter hinted at the possibility of rookie holdouts earlier on Saturday. Houston's Jayden Higgins and Cleveland's Carson Schwesinger were given fully guaranteed four year rookie deals in May. Now, it appears that the other second rounders might be prepared to wait front offices out to get what they want.

Harris' holdout puts him in a position to be one of the latest rookies to sign his rookie deal in modern Chargers history. Rashawn Slater and Tre' McKitty both signed their rookie deals at the end of July 2021, but training camp also started later that year for the team. Joey Bosa's 2016 holdout was the last time a rookie contract situation lingered deep into August.

The Chargers' offensive implications of this decision are apparent. One of the offseason's premium offensive weapon acquisitions for Justin Herbert will not be in training camp. For an offense looking for more explosiveness and consistency this season, that's a missed opportunity. It also does mean that Harris could be a little behind the curve reps wise whenever he does report to the team.

For a Chargers team that wants to contend in 2025, there's an urgency to get Harris back on the field sooner rather than later. Hopefully, both sides can work out a deal that gets him in the building.
