3 Chargers who may not make it to the end of October
By Jason Reed
An NFL roster is an ever-fluid entity and the LA Chargers are a good example of that. There have been plenty of roster moves in Joe Hortiz's first year as general manager and there will continue to be moves as the season goes along.
With one more game in the month of October, and the NFL trade deadline right behind it in early November, there are several Chargers players currently on the roster who may not last much longer. In fact, they may not even make it to the 11th month of the year.
3 Chargers who likely won't make it to the end of October:
Jalen Reagor
Jalen Reagor isn't actually on the Chargers' active roster as he was a practice squad elevation for the team in Week 7. However, with the litany of injuries in the wide receiver room, Reagor may once again be active for the Bolts in Week 8.
That is as far as the Chargers should take it and Reagor's tenure with the team, even on the practice squad, should end after two weeks. Reagor is one of the most disappointing first-round picks in recent years and it took him only one drive in his Chargers debut to make a gaffe that completely swung the game.
Reagor does not add anything new to the Chargers' offense and his mistakes are only going to hurt the team. Even if the Chargers need wide receiver help, they are better off taking a flier on a different practice squad player.
Stone Smartt
Like the wide receiver room, the tight end position is dealing with several injuries as both Hayden Hurst and Will Dissly are banged up. Hurst did not play in Week 7 while Dissly was the team's leading receiver before logging a DNP in practice on Wednesday.
Hurst's injury is expected to keep him out multiple games but considering the fact he has not been added to the IR, it is safe to assume he will be back sooner rather than later. If he can return in Week 9, assuming Dissly is healthy, then there is no place for Smartt on the roster.

Smartt is essentially the team's TE4 and he does not really offer much, especially as a tight end who is not a good blocker in Greg Roman's offense. Eric Tomlinson has usurped Smartt in the depth chart, as indicated by him receiving more snaps in Week 8, so he will be kept over Smartt when cuts need to be made.
It is hard to imagine there being much interest around the league in bringing Smartt in, so he can return to the team's practice squad so long that the Chargers actually want him.
Brenden Rice
This is a controversial one as many Chargers fans want to see Brenden Rice get more playing time than he is getting. The former USC Trojan was touted as the steal of the draft when the Bolts took him in the seventh round but in reality, he has lived up to being a seventh-round wideout.
While it is easy to fall in love with his pre-draft expectations and how they compare to where he was actually selected, it is important to realize the fact that Rice simply has not been productive. Even when he has received playing time, Rice has not done much to make the most of it.
Once the wideout room gets healthy and Chark is activated there has to be someone who gets the boot. Simi Fehoko is simply too impactful, leaving Rice as the only real option to cut and re-sign to the practice squad.
