With the announcement of Bradley Bozeman's retirement coming just over two weeks ago, the Los Angeles Chargers are officially in need of a center this offseason.

Although Bozeman's retirement was somewhat surprising, his departure is not. Bozeman was far and away the worst starting center in the NFL last season, and the only reasonable action was for him to be released so that the Chargers could seek out a center to fit their new scheme under Mike McDaniel.

Of course Tyler Linderbaum will be their top target, but it's looking like his market could be prohibitively expensive. If he ultimately hits free agency next week, he could make upwards of $20 million annually on his next contract.

It's wise, therefore, for them to explore their other options in the meantime. They've done exactly that on Thursday, hosting Tyler Biadasz, who was surprisingly released by the Washington Commanders just last week, on a visit today, per Daniel Popper.

Tyler Biadasz could be the mid-level center target the Chargers ultimately need to settle for

With the releases of Mekhi Becton and Will Dissly, Los Angeles has the most cap space in the NFL. Needless to say, hopes are high for what they can accomplish this offseason with that amount of financial flexibility.

But the markets on Zion Johnson, Odafe Oweh, and Khalil Mack could eat up a large chunk of this money. If all three ultimately return, Los Angeles could be priced out of a player like Linderbaum before things even truly heat up this offseason.

Biadasz could quickly become an ideal target as a result. Per Pro Football Focus, Biadasz finished 11th out of 40 qualified centers last season in overall protection grade. He's not as physically imposing as some of the other players on the market, such as Cade Mays, but he's demonstrated sound technique throughout his time in the NFL.

His release from the Commanders was likely for cap-shaving purposes.

He's both a capable pass protector and a run blocker. Popper, in his 2026 free agent rankings, has Biadasz slated to earn a three-year, $21 million contract. Opportunity cost is an important thing to consider here. Opting for Biadasz instead of chasing Linderbaum could give Los Angeles an extra $14 million to distribute at other positions.

At the same time, the Chargers can't afford to gamble again at the center position, hoping to extract surplus value from a middle-of-the-market contract. If they can somehow get Linderbaum, they must do everything within their power to get it done.

If they can't, however, Biadasz should certainly be on their radar. A visit will give them the opportunity to see how he processes the scheme that McDaniel and Jim Harbaugh are attempting to implement in 2026.
