Chargers to meet with intriguing edge rusher with Bosa and Mack's futures unclear

Following the NFL Combine, teams will begin their yearly predraft process of meeting with some of the players in person. Each team gets 30 "Top 30" prospect visits in addition to local prospect visits from those in the team's area (Los Angeles for the Chargers).

Reportedly, the Chargers are hitting the ground running already. The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler reports that Los Angeles will meet with Boise State EDGE Ahmed Hassanein as one of their Top 30 visits.

The Chargers obviously enter an uncertain period in their EDGE room this offseason. For the time being, Khalil Mack seems like he'll test free agency. A $36.4 million cap hit from Joey Bosa also stares general manager Joe Hortiz in the face.

Last week on "The Pat McAfee Show", ESPN Senior Insider Adam Schefter said that keeping Bosa and Mack would be tough. He suggested that it would be "pretty good" if the Chargers were able to keep one of their premier EDGE rushers.

If the Chargers lose one of (or both) Bosa and Mack in free agency, their primary route to replacements would probably go through April's NFL Draft.

Technically, they'd have the money to go out and get a top free-agent edge rusher as well. But with a decent group of pass rushers that could be had on rookie contracts, one free agent would imagine that Hortiz would want to boost their EDGE room there.

Boise State's Hassanein is PFF's 130th ranked prospect on their big board, putting him directly in fourth to fifth round range. With the Broncos last season, Hassanein had 62 pressures, 9.5 sacks, and 30 run stops.

Over the last two seasons, he developed as a pass rusher with 22 combined sacks. He's originally from Egypt and moved to the United States in 2018. At the NFL Combine last week, Hassanein ran a 4.77 40-yard dash.

With the statuses of Bosa and Mack hanging in the balance, the Chargers are doing their homework on the 2025 EDGE rusher class. Could Hassanein be one of the team's day three picks as they build out their pass rush rotation? Perhaps.
