Chargers’ season just got a defining quote from Jim Harbaugh after 3-0 start

This is a moral victory more than a physical one...

As the Los Angeles Chargers have begun the season 3-0, with massive victories over the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos, spirits must be at an all-time high in the locker room despite the lingering injury issues that have plagued the team to this point.

Yet, as head coach Jim Harbaugh elucidated in his post-game conference following their victory over the Broncos, this is just as much a moral victory for the team as it was a physical one, and the ability to continue to carry this momentum into their upcoming matchups will be a defining aspect of their season as it progresses.

Chargers' victory over the Broncos represents moral momentum they can carry forward

In Harbaugh's post-game press conference, he was evidently in high spirits, and, in a series of questions in which he was asked to describe this win and its importance to the team, he was quoted as saying: "I think it was Napoleon Bonaparte who said moral is to physical as 3 is to 1".

While this is a rather trite Harbaugh-ism, it is also perfectly on the nose for what this win represents for Los Angeles: a hugely important moral victory.

Although the team was already riding high after handy defeats of both Kansas City and Las Vegas in Weeks 1 and 2, it looked as though the Broncos offense, mid-way through the third quarter, was about to stifle the Chargers' offense.

With their offensive line banged up and Herbert having been sacked five times throughout the game, they were certainly poised for a massively disappointing loss.

Yet, Herbert put the team on his back, leading them to a touchdown drive that was capped off by an excellent, scrambling, sidearm throw around a crashing Nick Bonitto and an amazing catch by veteran receiver Keenan Allen.

Then, with just under two minutes on the clock, Herbert was able to push the team into field goal range, allowing Cameron Dicker to seal the game.

Down two scores and under serious pressure from the opposing pass rush, the team's offense could have seriously crumbled under the weight of mounting a comeback. Instead, however, Herbert flexed his muscles yet again, and this team, frankly, looks to have a different energy than they possessed last season.

With upcoming matchups against the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts, the team's offense may not be tested again like this for awhile. However, when they are, they are seemingly ready to face almost any amount of adversity.
