Chargers QB Justin Herbert and HC Jim Harbaugh participated in media availability on Tuesday in Brazil. An international reporter asked Herbert about his thoughts on the 2028 Olympics and NFL player involvement. The Olympic Games will be in Los Angeles in just three years.

For the first time in the history of the Games, flag football is set to be introduced as an event. It's worth asking, especially given that Herbert is the quarterback of one of the two LA franchises. Herbert had this to say:

Chargers QB Justin Herbert does not rule out 2028 Los Angeles Olympics participation

"Yeah, I think it would be a great opportunity for LA," Herbert said. "It's a great city and they care so much about their sports. And they're a very passionate fanbase as well. At the same time, being an Olympic athlete would be really cool. Being able to share that passion for the game, whether it's football or another Olympic sport-you know it's going to be a really good opportunity for whoever plays in it."

While not necessarily an indication that he'd definitely take an offer to be on the Olympic team, it's clear that Herbert has some interest. Other quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have stated their thoughts on potential Olympic participation as well.

Allen said he would love to "compete for his country". Mahomes on the other hand said he would leave the 2028 Olympics to "the younger guys".

While the Chargers would have to navigate training camp and the offseason a little bit differently if Herbert were to compete in the Olympics, it can't be denied that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

However, we're still multiple seasons away from having real conversations about any potential Chargers player's involvement in the Games. But we can file this comment away as at least an initial indication of some interest.
