Chargers QB Justin Herbert continues to shatter records. Last Thursday against the Vikings, Herbert broke Peyton Manning’s record for completions in a quarterback’s first six seasons. And that probably won’t be the only record of Manning’s that Herbert breaks this season. With nine games left, he is 1653 yards from also breaking Manning’s yards in a quarterback’s first six seasons record.
But based on a recent mic’d up clip, Herbert isn’t focused on the numbers. He’s solely focused on winning. LB Denzel Perryman came up to Herbert to congratulate him on this new achievement that was announced on the video board in the stadium. In classic Herbert fashion, he wasn’t even paying an ounce of attention to this announcement.
Chargers QB Justin Herbert was just focused on getting the win vs. the Vikings
”Aye man, that’s the true definition of a locked-in player man,” Perryman said as he walked away from Herbert on the sideline. “He don’t even know what the hell he being congratulated on. But, I love it.”
Herbert finished the game with 18-25 passing, 227 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception. He had 62 rushing yards to go along with his passing production and was graded with his highest PFF offense score of the season (93.6).
Herbert lost some of the MVP buzz he had earlier in the season as the Chargers went 1-3 after starting 3-0. The team was littered with injuries in that stretch (to some extent, still is), but is starting to get some of their premier talents back. Khalil Mack and Joe Alt made their impacts felt on the game last Thursday night.
As rarely as it seems to happen for this team, a truly healthy Chargers nucleus is dangerous.
Herbert will be focused on getting the win this Sunday against the struggling Titans. But the Chargers can’t let up. The Chiefs and Jaguars are still breathing down their necks for Wild Card positioning. Denver leads the AFC West by a game after their drubbing of Dallas this past Sunday.
