Chargers' opponent set to undergo massive change right in time to play LA

The LA Chargers making quick work of the bottom feeders in the NFL is non-negotiable if the team is truly going to contend for the Super Bowl. This includes the New York Giants.

The Giants looked like one of the absolute worst teams in the league in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. Russell Wilson somehow regressed further as New York struggled to move the ball at all against Dan Quinn's defense.

New York needs change if the team is going to avoid another awful season, especially at the quarterback position. That change may be happening sooner than anyone could have expected with rookie signal-caller Jaxson Dart becoming a true darling for Giants fans.

And if this quarterback switch happens as quickly as NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks, it will completely change the dynamic of the game for the Chargers.

"The time to go to Jaxson Dart for the New York Giants is coming," Schefter said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. "We don't know if it's going to be this week or next week but his time is coming."

Giants may swap quarterbacks right in time for the Chargers

The Giants surprisingly announced after Schefter's comments that Dart is starting in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. While the debut may be slightly delayed, it makes no difference for the Bolts.

It never mattered if it happened this week or next week, the Chargers play the Giants in Week 4. Dart may not be starting against the Cowboys, but one more bad Russell Wilson game will likely be enough to force the Giants' hand.

After all, Brian Daboll is coaching for his job. He cannot afford for the losses to pile up early in the season as that will get him fired. Unless Russ suddenly flips a switch nobody knows he has, Daboll will be forced to get desperate at quarterback.

Heck, there is an avenue in which Dart ends up making his debut against the Chargers. The Giants play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 and the team may want to "protect" him from the defending AFC Champions.

However, after the Chargers' Week 1 win, it may seem counterintuitive to protect Dart from the Chiefs only to throw him out there against the Chargers.

Either way, the odds of the Chargers seeing Dart in Week 4 are growing, and will continue to grow with every bad snap Wilson takes on Sunday.
