Chargers want to use Omarion Hampton more as a pass-catcher
This is music to fantasy football player's ears. Hampton is already one of the most exciting young backs in the lead. Add in a targeted uptick in pass-catching opportunities and he becomes someone who can win you your entire fantasy league.
We don't want to overreact too much, but Hampton could genuinely challenge for the RB1 spot if McDaniel utilizes him the same way he once utilized Miami Dolphins running backs.
Hampton was already a featured part of the passing attack in a check-down capacity. He hauled in 32 catches on 35 targets for 192 yards and a touchdown in nine games. Justin Herbert also loves to throw to his running backs, as he proved over multiple seasons with Austin Ekeler as his main running back.
Not only does Hampton have the offensive coordinator to be a fantasy superstar, he has the quarterback as well. Giving Hampton a more dedicated role in the passing game can truly yield season-defining results.
Everything the Chargers did this offseason leans into the desire to run the offense from the inside out with the run game. The team targeted run-blocking specialists on the offensive line, even if they leave more to be desired in pass pro. They signed blocking tight end Charlie Kolar to the longest deal an external free agent has gotten from GM Joe Hortiz. They went out of their way to get a proper fullback in Alec Ingold.
The stars are lining up for Hampton to be a true bell-cow in 2026. Add in production in the passing game and it's abundantly clear he is a must-target for every fantasy player in 2026.
Truly, the only thing that can slow Hampton down as a legitimate fantasy weapon is health. After a banged-up rookie season for the UNC product, the hope is that he can stay on the field for all 17 games in 2026.
