Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Joe Alt comes into 2025 off of a great rookie campaign.
Alt allowed just six sacks and 24 pressures on over 1,000 snaps. He got stronger as the season went on despite questions about how he'd adjust to playing right tackle in the NFL. Alt was voted onto the Pro Football Writers of America and ESPN's respective All-Rookie teams.
Despite all of the success in year one, there's still room to grow. And Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman sees that continued ascension for Alt happening sooner rather than later.
Roman has high expectations for Alt in 2025
In an interview with Matt "Money" Smith on Chargers Weekly, Roman said he thinks the Notre Dame product will be an All-Pro in his second season.
"I think Joe Alt, you're gonna see a hands down All-Pro this year," Roman said. "I mean hands down. All-Pro. I can see it right now."
"Last year he was 20 years old. He was like Clifford the Big Red Dog. It's figuring things out. Now I can tell, he's really worked hard this offseason. His body, he's like 330 pounds. He's kinda getting into that man strength."
Roman said that Alt walked into his office the day after the loss to Texans in the playoffs and went through a list of things he'd improve on in 2025.
"Just little detail things, elite-level type stuff," Roman said. "So he's gonna take a huge jump."
It goes without saying that it's been a long time since the Chargers have had true Pro Bowl/All-Pro caliber play on both sides of the line. Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater earned the second Pro Bowl nomination of his career last season. If the Chargers could get that level of production out of Alt as well, it would be a massive win for Roman's effort to dominate in the trenches.
With some uncertainty about how the left guard and center spots will play out on LA's offensive line this year, the Chargers need quality performances from Slater, Alt, and right guard Mekhi Becton.
