While it's certainly no secret that the Los Angeles Chargers haven't made the noise some thought they might during this 2026 NFL free agency frenzy, there are still some players out there who could give the Bolts a boost.
One position that undoubtedly still needs addressing is edge rusher, as the Chargers failed to re-sign Odafe Oweh, who came over in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens this past year and made a significant impact, racking up 7.5 sacks in a dozen regular-season games and another three in LA's wild-card loss to the New England Patriots. Oweh, of course, ultimately inked a four-year, $100 million deal with the Washington Commanders.
The Chargers were able to bring back Khalil Mack on another one-year deal, and they still have rising star Tuli Tuipulotu, whose 13.0 sacks ranked sixth in the NFL in 2025. But we all saw how well a strong trio worked, so it would obviously bode well for Jim Harbaugh and new defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary to add another piece to the puzzle. And perhaps that piece could be veteran Cameron Jordan, who is a free agent for the first time in his career after 15 seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
Jordan has made it pretty clear that he prefers to return to New Orleans, but if he doesn't, the Chargers have been named as a possible landing spot for the eight-time Pro Bowler.
Cameron Jordan would be a solid addition for the Chargers
Shanna McCarriston and Carter Bahns recently teamed up to list a few possible landing spots for Jordan if the Saints don't bring him back for a 16th season, and Los Angeles was the final team listed. Here's a quick look at some of their assessment:
"Odafe Oweh is out the door in a disappointing hit to the Chargers' pass rush. With his departure, Los Angeles is in need of a replacement who can keep this defense among the NFL's most elite units. Jordan may not be a long-term solution, but he would be a stopgap option at least who would help the Chargers maintain some of the best financial flexibility in the league."
Is Jordan anywhere near his prime? Of course not. But the 36-year-old certainly turned back the clock a bit this past year with 10.5 sacks, his highest total since 2021 and good for a tie for the 13th-most in the league. And on top of that, his 82.1 PFF run-defense grade ranked fourth among 115 qualifying edge rushers. So, he's still got some gas left in the tank.
And he certainly wouldn't break the bank, as he collected just over $6 million last season, which is a number the Chargers can easily afford right now. The Bolts will undoubtedly go looking for edge help in the draft, but adding Jordan as well is certainly an option to consider.
