The Los Angeles Chargers have cemented the core of their coaching staff, and all eyes will now turn toward what is sure to be an active free agency for the striving franchise.
They have just over $87 million in cap space remaining not counting their extension of DT Teair Tart. The team has numerous needs that must be addressed this offseason if they want to get over the hump in 2026.
Moreover, with new coordinators on both sides of the ball, there are certainly personnel changes coming to account both for financial flexibility and changes in scheme. It is likely that both Mekhi Becton and Bradley Bozeman are cut to make room for a re-tooling of the offensive line.
Yet one forgotten player could also soon be on the chopping block. According to Alex Ballentine at Bleacher Report, tight end Will Dissly could be an unfortunate casualty of the Chargers' ultimate goals this offseason.
Will Dissly is as good as gone this offseason
Dissly, 29, was meant to be a strong addition to the Chargers offense in 2024 after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks. Although he started just eight games that season, he posted solid numbers, amassing 481 yards, 50 receptions, and two touchdowns on 64 targets.
But a series of injuries and confusing benchings limited his impact in 2025. He played in just nine games for Los Angeles, garnering only 16 targets and taking a back seat to standout rookie Oronde Gadsden II. He played just 31% of the team's snaps even when he was active.
Gadsden played 62% of the snaps after starting the season as a healthy scratch, amassing 664 yards, 49 receptions, and three touchdowns on 69 targets.
The Chargers could shave $4 million off their books if they were to release Dissly this offseason.
While this might seem insignificant given the cap flexiblity the Chargers possess, they still have a number of issues to address before they can even turn their attention to the open market. Zion Johnson, Khalil Mack, Odafe Oweh, and Keenan Allen are all free agents.
Clearing Dissly's contract off the books could help grant them the additional flexibility they need. Tucker Fisk is a restricted free agent, and bringing him back in a limited role could provide the team with additional blocking power when it's required.
Dissly, therefore, could soon prove to be an unfortunate casualty of Los Angeles's greater needs this offseason.
