This is not how Chargers fans wanted to follow Week 12's loss.

The LA Chargers were given a bit of a reality check on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens. While losses are inevitable in the NFL, the Chargers were reminded that they are not yet on the same tier as the Ravens and have to play perfect football to beat the best teams in the league.

While the team learned a lot in its loss to the Ravens, the main takeaway should have been that Justin Herbert needs more help on offense. As great as Ladd McConkey was, it was a really bad night for the Bolts' wide receivers.

Adding true help this late in the season is easier said than done but the Chargers were gifted the perfect flier option via the Denver Broncos in former UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich. However, Dulcich was claimed by the New York Giants before the Chargers even had a chance, leading the Bolts to respond with a... less than exciting roster move.

Chargers signing McCallan Castles is a disappointing follow-up to Ravens loss

Rome was not built in a day and the Chargers were not going to find some magic elixir after losing to the Ravens. But the team could have signed a more impactful player than McCallan Castles, especially considering Dulcich was right there for the taking.

Those who follow the Chargers' practice squad operations are familiar with Castles' name. Castles first signed to the Chargers' practice squad on October 15 and was released on November 20 to make room for other signings.

Prior to signing with the Chargers, Castles signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia waived him with an injury designation before the end of training camp.

Tight end is arguably the worst position on the Chargers roster with Will Dissly being flanked by Stone Smartt and Tucker Fisk of all players. Hayden Hurst is currently on the IR and will miss at least four games. Castles doesn't really add anything to this room, because if he did, he would have never been released in the first place.

It is unknown whether or not the Chargers would have brought in Dulcich as the Giants are higher on the waiver wire. Why a non-contending team with no quarterback claimed Dulcich is beyond anyone's guess. Dulcich himself would have likely preferred to come to the Chargers instead of the Giants.

But alas, Dulcich is en route to the Meadowlands while the Chargers have to settle for practice squad signings.
