On Thursday, veteran wide receiver Mike Williams informed the Los Angeles Chargers he was retiring. The team brought Williams back this offseason, and was planning for him to have a big role in the offense, but that plan won’t come to fruition. This led to everyone speculating how Los Angeles would replace Williams. Signing rookie Tre Harris was a great first step, but it won’t be enough.
Of course, a Keenan Allen reunion was immediately brought up as a possibility, and so was an Amari Cooper signing. While both moves would be good for the Chargers, a franchise legend had an even bigger move in mind. Former linebacker Shawne Merriman, who played six seasons with the team from 2005 to 2010 took to social media to declare his suggestion.
Merriman sent a simple tweet to Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin, asking him how his day was going. While the former linebacker inquired about the receiver’s day, that was his way of making it known he’d love to see the team acquire McLaurin.
What’s up brother how’s your day? @TheTerry_25

Shawne Merriman wants to see he Chargers trade for Terry McLaurin
McLaurin, one of the best receivers in the NFL, is currently in a contract dispute with the Commanders. He’s entering the final year of his current deal, and has expressed that his desire has always been to remain in Washington, where he started his career. However, the team hasn’t extended him yet, and the star wideout has made his frustrations known.
While it would be foolish for the Commanders to trade Jayden Daniels’ star wideout ahead of his second season, crazier things have happened in the NFL. The Chargers should definitely give Washington a call and see if they can talk the franchise into moving the veteran receiver. The move would infuriate Commanders fans, but it will be exactly what Los Angeles needs.
McLaurin is a two-time Pro Bowler who has strung together five straight 1000-yard seasons. He would be a perfect No. 1 receiver for Justin Herbert, so the Chargers should take Merriman‘a advice and see if they can make that happen.
