Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh gives less-than-promising update on Najee Harris

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about the status of Najee Harris at his media availability today. There has been no new update from the Chargers or any reporters on Harris' eye injury since he was placed on the NFI list last week.

Harbaugh first said that Harris was doing good, and that his eye injury was "better today than yesterday. Hopefully, better tomorrow than today." As he said before, Harbaugh maintains that Harris is doing everything he can within the facility outside of practicing. That includes participation in team meetings.

Harbaugh also said that he was "praying for healing" in regards to Harris' injury. He was then asked if Harris would be back at practice at any point during the team's training camp period (July 17th-August 8th). His response:

"I don't know," Harbaugh started. "Certainly not an expert as you know. Approaching it better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today. Healing, he's healing. And doing everything that he can."

Jim Harbaugh's Najee Harris update concerns Chargers fans

Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson in his initial statement on the incident claimed that Harris would be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. While that may still end up being true, it's not a great sign that Harbaugh and the coaching staff don't seem ready to commit to him being back in three weeks.

The Chargers signed RB Nyheim Hines after a workout yesterday in El Segundo. He is with the team as they practice in San Diego at USD. Harbaugh confirmed in his presser that he would practice in Tuesday's session.

Right now, the rotation without Harris is Omarion Hampton, Kimani Vidal, Hassan Haskins, Jaret Patterson and the newly added Hines. UDFA RB Raheim "Rocket" Sanders has missed the last four practices.

Harbaugh said he expects Sanders to be out for a week as a rough timeline. That would certainly make his participation in the Hall of Fame game seem a little less likely without reps.
