The Chargers were able to keep most of their coaching staff in place after the 2024 season. That will not be the case in 2025.
OC Greg Roman and offensive line coach Mike Devlin were already fired less than 48 hours after the playoff loss to the New England Patriots. The fate of DC Jesse Minter hangs in the balance. He has been requested to interview for all eight current HC openings.
The OC search and possible DC search will be the focus of the Chargers' offseason as they look to restock their coaching pipeline. But one other Chargers position coach will not be back with the team in 2026. GM Joe Hortiz announced today that LBs coach NaVorro Bowman will be stepping away.
More coaching staff turnover for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Hortiz was asked at his season-ending media availability if there would be changes to the coaching staff outside of of Roman, Devlin, and possibly Minter. He made the previously unknown announcement about Bowman's future:
"NaVorro Bowman has decided to step back from coaching," Hortiz announced. "For those of you that don't know, his son is an elite hooper and he wants to be a dad. And guide him through the process of college, selecting a college. As a father, excited for Bow. As a general manager and teammate of Bow's here, I'm disappointed. I love him and he did a great job. I understand his thought process. So, we'll miss him."
Chargers LB Daiyan Henley posted a tribute to Bowman on social media. Bowman played a critical role in the development of Henley over the last two seasons as LBs coach. He was well-respected within the organization as Hortiz mentioned.
Health has to some extent kept the Chargers LB room from looking quite as strong as it should. Former third-round pick Junior Colson missed all of the 2025 season while veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman has dealt with injuries.
However, Bowman and the Chargers coaching staff have gotten solid contributions from Troy Dye. Marlowe Wax looks like a massive UDFA hit with his contributions on special teams and potential future role on defense. LB Del'Shawn Phillips earned a second-team All-Pro nomination for his special teams role but played very well in spurts on defense.
In addition to the stories of the offseason at OC and DC, Bowman will be a tough coach to replace. We'll see whether the Chargers look internally or externally for their replacement of the 4x All-Pro player turned coach.
