Editor's update: DK Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers after publication of this article.
Two big-name wide receivers have been tied to the LA Chargers this offseason: Seattle Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf and free-agent receiver Davante Adams. The latter is no longer an option for the Chargers as the multiple-time All-Pro signed a two-year, $46 million deal with the LA Rams.
Metcalf isn't the only other receiver the Chargers can pursue this offseason, but he is the best of the bunch. The Chargers reportedly tried to trade for Metcalf last offseason, so we know this current regime is interested in bringing him in.
The interest reportedly goes both ways. Right before the Adams signing was reported for the Rams, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Chargers are "high" on Metcalf's list of preferred destinations. Perhaps these two things are correlated.
The #Chargers are high on D.K. Metcalf’s list of preferred destinations in a trade, per sources, with some in the league believing L.A. is his top choice.

Latest DK Metcalf report is gold for Chargers after missing out on Davante Adams
Is it a coincidence that at the same time the Metcalf report comes out that Adams signs his new deal? Perhaps. But with Adams being the other wideout tied to the Bolts, the connective tissue between the two reports is impossible to ignore.
Perhaps Adams' camp received word that the Chargers would be prioritizing a Metcalf trade, which allowed them to finalize the deal with the Rams. It's hard to blame the Chargers for prioritizing Metcalf with his trade value going down and Adams signing for more than expected.
Regardless, this Metcalf report is great for the Chargers and unsurprising at the same time. Ever since the trade request was reported Chargers fans have been quick to point out how the Bolts are a perfect fit for Metcalf.
There is not a better situation in the league for Metcalf to go to. The Chargers have the cap space to extend him, a star quarterback to throw him passes, and play in the second-largest market in the league. Any available star receiver should want to join the Chargers.
While anything can happen, including a trade to the Texans with Metcalf reportedly eyeing them as well, it only seems like a matter of time until Metcalf is a Charger. Like Jim Harbaugh a year ago, all the writing is on the wall for Metcalf to join the Bolts in the near future.
This would be a huge boost for the Bolts, who desperately need to add wide receiver help this offseason. With Metcalf, Ladd McConkey and other pieces to add this offseason, the Chargers can create one of the most dangerous offenses in the league to go with the team's No. 1 scoring defense.
And if they can do that, it might not be long until the Chargers are playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl.
