The calendar flipped to June on Monday, and there was certainly plenty to discuss around the NFL, as a pair of blockbuster moves shook up the landscape of the league. One was expected, of course, as the Philadelphia Eagles finally shipped wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots, receiving a 2028 first-rounder and a 2027 fifth-rounder in return.
In much more surprising news, the Cleveland Browns dealt two-time (and reigning) Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, receiving Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-rounder, and a 2029 third-rounder. So, yeah, it was a big day.
Tuesday brought another move involving another former first-rounder, but it was nowhere near as exciting, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Jalen Reagor has reached an agreement with the Miami Dolphins to join their 90-man roster.
See, not exactly a blockbuster kind of a thing, is it? Nevertheless, after roughly seven and a half months without having a job, the 27-year-old gets another chance to resurrect his career.
Jalen Reagor tallied just seven receptions for the Chargers
A two-time Second-Team All-Big 12 selection at TCU, Reagor was taken in the first round of the 2020 draft by the Eagles at No. 21 overall but spent just two years in Philly before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2022 campaign.
After one year in Minnesota, the Texas native landed with the Patriots, with whom he re-signed for the 2024 campaign before being cut from the practice squad a couple of weeks into the regular season.
It was at that point that Reagor signed with the Chargers, initially joining the team as part of the practice squad. He was eventually promoted to the main roster and ultimately appeared in eight games, recording seven catches for 100 yards on 12 targets.
He re-signed with the Bolts last March but was released as part of final roster cuts in August. He rejoined the practice squad a day later, but after suffering an undisclosed injury, he was released just a few days into the regular season with an injury settlement. Reagor again rejoined the practice squad in early October but was released only 11 days later and failed to find another team to close out the year.
With just 86 catches for 1,037 yards and four touchdowns for his career, Reagor obviously has come nowhere close to living up to his draft status. Yes, he's added 986 kick/punt return yards and a pair of scores, posting one each, but that doesn't change things in the slightest.
Now, given the mess that is Miami right now, he could very well make his way onto the 53-man roster come August. And truth be told, he better hope that happens because it could conceivably be his last chance.
