The LA Chargers' WR room is already a bit of a mess, so a reunion with Keenan Allen would make sense, right? Keenan Allen is a first-ballot player into the "Hall of Very Good" and has been routing-up defensive backs for quite a while in the NFL.
He played for the Chargers from 2013-2023, catching 904 passes for 10,530 yards and 59 touchdowns. Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears last offseason and did manage to finish with 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.
The production is still there, but when you look at who the Chargers have at the position, bringing Allen back just doesn't make much sense.
Signing Keenan Allen makes zero sense for the LA Chargers
It's a hard truth for the Chargers, and while the reunion would be fun and surely to be a hit among the fans, he doesn't really have a clear role on the team. The Chargers would also probably need to do something a bit more bold at the position.
Mike Williams already retire, and outside of Ladd McConkey, the team doesn't have another go-to target. This has been a bit of an issue during Justin Herbert's career, but McConkey being as good as he is already does satisfy one need in the room.
If the Chargers wanted to add another player to the WR room, they should pick up the phone and try to pull off a major trade. GM Joe Hortiz has an 11-win team on his hands and could end up with a contender in 2025.
Making the feel-good roster move in bringing Keenan Allen back is just that - a feel-good move. Schematically, he's not a great fit. The Green Bay Packers may be where LA could start.
They've got a surplus of young wide receivers and will have to sift through all of that talent in the coming weeks. Joe Hortiz should make life easier for them and pick up the phone ASAP to make a deal.
