The Los Angeles Chargers have been scanning the NFL landscape this offseason for a suitable wide receiver to support Justin Herbert and run opposite Ladd McConkey. Quentin Johnston certainly has his moments, but a more reliable piece would take the Chargers' offense to another level.

Free agency brought the team Jalen Reagor, as well as a reunion with Mike Williams, who spent 2024 with two different NFL teams after playing in Los Angeles for his first seven seasons. Williams was not the notable former Chargers receiver that the fan base wanted back, however.

That would be Keenan Allen, the six-time Pro Bowl wideout who played 11 years with the franchise and was a key holdover from the team's days in San Diego. He has spent the entire offseason as a free agent, and while Chargers fans have been clamoring for him to come back, they finally got an update on that front.

Chargers hosting legendary WR Keenan Allen on a visit

NFL Insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Allen was in Los Angeles and visiting the Chargers. Not only that, but the two sides have a mutual interest in a potential reunion for the 2025 NFL season.

Allen, now 33 years old, left the Chargers last offseason in free agency for the Chicago Bears after a new regime took over in Los Angeles. He followed former Chargers wide receiver coach Chris Beatty to Chicago, but neither lasted more than a year there amid their dysfunction.

Reports have been linking Allen to almost every NFL team needing a veteran wideout. This includes the Las Vegas Raiders, who have both Beatty on the staff and very little proven talent at wide receiver outside of Jakobi Meyers.

However, it seems like things are trending in a positive direction for the Chargers to re-sign the man who is currently ranked second on the all-time franchise catches and receiving yards lists, as well as third in touchdowns.

He mustered 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2024 season with the Bears despite a smattering of coordinators and moving pieces. So, he still has something valuable to add in Los Angeles, and Allen could also serve as a leader for McConkey, Johnston and rookie Tre Harris.

Nothing is official yet between the two sides, but there should be very little getting in the way of a potential reunion if both sides are interested. Allen could finally be back where he belongs, chasing franchise history and serving potentially as the piece to get Los Angeles over the hump.
