The Los Angeles Chargers have dropped two straight games after starting the year 3-0, but they are determined to get back on track. Getting healthy will certainly help with that, but so will being aggressive ahead of the November 4 trade deadline. The Chargers recently made a move to acquire edge defender Odafe Oweh, but the franchise might just be getting started.
Los Angeles has some other positions it needs to address, and fortunately, there are quite a few tarde targets across the league who could be on the move. NFL Spin Zone’s Sayre Bedinger recently highlighted some of those players, and named some teams they could end up with. The Chargers were listed as a potential landing spot for Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.
Chargers could explore a trade for David Njoku ahead of trade deadline
Bedinger lists out all the reasons why Njoku is a trade candidate; the tight end is playing on the final season of his contract, on a struggling Browns team, and Cleveland already has its eyes on the future. A key piece in the Browns promising rookie class is tight end Harold Fannin Jr. Fannin has 21 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown on the season, compared to Njoku’s 20 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown.
The two make a good duo, but since the Browns are losing, and Njoku will be a free agent this offseason, Cleveland could decide to just trade the tight end who has been there since 2017. If that happens, the Chargers should definitely be on the phone to see what it will take to land him.
Los Angeles hasn’t gotten much production out of the tight ends on its roster this season. Tyler Conklin has appeared in all five games, catching five passes for 83 yards, and Oronde Gadsden II only has eight receptions for 76 yards in his three games of action. Will Dissly, who has only played in two games, has two receptions for 25 yards.
David Njoku will be an upgrade over all three, and would be a great addition for Justin Herbert in the Chargers offense. Los Angeles should try to to make this move happen before the deadline.
