The Los Angeles Chargers are currently sitting at the top of the AFC West with a 3-1 record and will more than likely be buyers at the trade deadline barring a rough stretch over the next month. The unfortunate part of this is that the teams tied for second in the division are both 2-2 and will be massive threats to the Chargers winning their first division title since 2009 when they were still in San Diego.
The biggest threat to the Chargers' hopes of winning the division is obviously the Kansas City Chiefs, who have won the last nine AFC West titles and gone to five of the last six Super Bowls. Chargers fans might have started to have hope when their squad was 2-0 to start the year and the Chiefs were 0-2, especially with one of those wins coming against K.C.
Well, just like that, the Chiefs are suddenly 2-2 and right back in the mix for a 10th straight AFC West title. With the Chiefs still being the Chiefs, they're likely going to be buyers at the deadline, just like the Chargers, and there's a possible trade acquisition they could land that Bolts fans are hoping like heck doesn't happen.
Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated put together a list of one trade every team should make and they had the Chiefs trading a fifth-round pick to the Saints for running back Alvin Kamara. This would instantly make the Chiefs' rushing attack more dangerous and anytime any aspect of a rival team can get better, that's not good.
Chargers fans would hate it if the Chiefs traded for Alvin Kamara
Sure, Kamara is 30 years old but he doesn't play like it. The Saints are a terrible team but Kamara still plays well for them, rushing for 256 yards and a touchdown through four games this year. With New Orleans going nowhere in 2025, it'd make sense for the Saints to offload Kamara and the Chiefs could use him because their run game has been a weakness for them so far through the first month of the season.
Kamara isn't just a threat as a runner but he's been an excellent pass-catcher during his career as well, tallying over 540 receiving yards last year in his age-29 season. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense don't need that kind of help, at least not in Chargers fans' opinion. Hopefully, this trade is just a pipedream for K.C. and the Chargers defense doesn't have to deal with stopping Kamara down the road.
