Chargers can finally dump draft disappointment if risky signings pay off

There are a lot of draft picks that didn't hit for the LA Chargers, especially from the Tom Telesco era. Some of those draft picks are still on the roster hanging on by a thread with a new front office and Jim Harbaugh leading the way.

One of those draft picks is cornerback Ja'Sir Taylor. Taylor was taken in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft as a developmental prospect who could hopefully develop under then-head coach Brandon Staley.

Taylor was green in some areas but had the raw athleticism to outperform his draft position. Unfortunately, Taylor never developed under Staley, who was fired before the end of Taylor's second season. Now, Taylor finds himself aimless on a Chargers team that may look to give him the ax if certain situations pan out.

Chargers can wipe hands of Ja'Sir Taylor if Benjamin St-Juste and Donte Jackson pan out

Kristian Fulton left the Chargers to join the dark side (the Kansas City Chiefs) this offseason. To replace him, the Chargers took two more fliers in veteran cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste.

Jackson has the higher profile heading into his Chargers tenure and is a better bet to make the most of his Chargers tenure; although it is far from a guarantee given the up-and-down nature of his previous stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

St-Juste is a different story as Washington Commanders fans outright celebrated when he signed with the Chargers. It's never a good sign when fans of the other team celebrate someone's departure. The Chargers seemingly know this, as St-Juste's contract guarantee does not show a lot of faith in his services.

The former Commander having a breakout season with the Chargers is not guaranteed. But if it does happen, the Bolts will have the depth to send Taylor on his way either to the practice squad or a different team entirely.

The cornerback room would consist of Tarheeb Still, Cam Hart, Jackson, St-Juste and Deane Leonard. With Derwin James and Elijah Molden providing versatility at safety, there really is no need to keep Taylor around, especially since he is not a special teams ace.

Time will tell if the Chargers part ways with Taylor ahead of the 2025 season. If he's going to make the roster, though, he has to get through two key signings.
