Justin Herbert is the most beloved player on the LA Chargers for obvious reasons. Herbert is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league and that, naturally, makes him really likeable if you are a Chargers fan.
Those outside the Chargers fanbase may not understand the Herbert love. Herbert isn't the most outspoken quarterback in the world, and if anything, is one of the most reserved players in the entire sport. Not much is known about Herbert despite being the face of a franchise in the second-biggest market in the country.
Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker just gave fans a peek behind the curtain into the kind of person Herbert is. And for anyone who follows the Chargers closely, Dicker's story about them putting in red contact lenses to scare kids is... not surprising.

Justin Herbert's legend grows after Cameron Dicker's crazy story
Well, that's our quarterback!
Herbert doesn't let much of his personality through during game days as he is so locked in and focused on getting the job done. However, there are moments where his personality starts to bleed through (especially after Jim Harbaugh was hired) and this story is right in line with what Chargers fans have noticed.
Herbert is goofy. Plain and simple. How many quarterbacks go out in public with their kicker and put on red contact lenses to scare kids at an ice cream shop? The list is very, very short, and the only other quarterback that might even be on it is Jameis Winston.
This is exactly why Chargers fans love Herbert as much as they do. He is not a brash personality who is hard to root for. He's just another dude who is really good at football, loves to do it, and stays true to who he is as a person.
Of course, Chargers fans better hope that this information doesn't get back to the team's biggest rivals. The Chargers' social media team is known for taking shots at other teams and this story just gave those teams plenty of fodder if Herbert has a bad game.
Maybe the red contact lenses will come out during the season, though! There is nothing more intimidating before making a sack than seeing a quarterback stare you down with eyes that mirror Darth Maul.
