Broncos tied to the worst-possible free agent for the Chargers

The LA Chargers reunited with one former wide receiver in Mike Williams earlier this offseason. With Williams back in the fold, Chargers fans have naturally turned their attention to a potential Keenan Allen homecoming.

Allen has been straightforward about his desire to only play in Los Angeles or Chicago next season. With the Bears and Rams not seeming like options, the door is wide open for Allen to return to the Bolts, so long as the team is interested.

Time will tell if Allen is serious about his desire to only play in Los Angeles or Chicago. Chargers fans certainly should hope it is, because if not, there is a world in which Allen would join one of the worst teams imaginable.

In a recent piece exploring the best fits for remaining free agents, Bleacher Reports' Kristopher Knox mentioned one of the last teams Chargers fans want to hear as a fit for Keenan Allen: the Denver Broncos.

Keenan Allen joining the Broncos is a literal nightmare for Chargers fans

Knox states that any team that was interested in Cooper Kupp should be interested in Allen. The Broncos were one of the teams in the market for Kupp, who eventually signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

It appears the Broncos balked at the eventual free-agent price tag for Kupp, which would not be an issue with Allen. Allen's free-agent value is lower than that of Kupp, and quite frankly, may only cost a team $10 million per season on a 1-2 year deal.

Watching a franchise legend sign with one of the Chargers' most hated rivals would be a tough pill to swallow. Worst of all, Allen would be absolutely perfect for what the Broncos need. He could live in the slot in Denver, giving young quarterback Bo Nix a reliable separator he could turn to on the outside.

If Allen is serious about only playing in LA or Chicago then this isn't something the Chargers actually have to be concerned about. However, if the Chargers aren't interested, it is really hard for anyone to turn down millions of dollars to continue playing football.

Knox also listed the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential landing spot for Allen, although that seems less likely. The Raiders are not in the same position to contend as the Chargers and Broncos, which may be enough for Allen to scoff at any interest.

That being said, Allen grew up in the Bay Area and caught some flak for posting a picture in a Raiders hat after being drafted back in 2013. If his dream was to sign with the Raiders as a kid then that may influence his decision.
