It is no secret the LA Chargers need wide receiver help this offseason. As great as rookie Ladd McConkey was in 2024, Justin Herbert needs more than just one receiver who can consistently create separation against defenses.
There are several directions the team can go to address the wide receiver position with a new possibility recently emerging. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has been floated as a potential trade target for the Chargers this offseason.
Metcalf is entering the last year of his contract needing with the goal of inking an extension before the start of the 2025 season. With the Seahawks well over next year's projected salary cap, it may be easier for the team to rip off the proverbial bandage and get draft capital for Metcalf's services.
The Chargers trading for Metcalf is certainly in the realm of possibility and those on the roster are already adding more fuel to the fire. Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley so happened to share a photo of him and Metcalf to his Instagram story just hours after the connection between Metcalf and the Chargers was made.
Daiyan Henley adds fuel to the DK Metcalf-Chargers rumors
The photo with Metcalf was originally taken and posted by Henley in May 2022 almost a full year before he was drafted by the Chargers. Henley was still with Washington State at the time, which explains the connection to the Washington-based wideout.
While the pictures may be old, it is no coincidence that Henley posted this two-and-a-half-year-old picture on the same day when a Metcalf trade was floated as a possibility. This is an obvious message from Henley, who likely wants to see the Bolts add Metcalf.
Granted, Henley does not make roster decisions and just because he thinks it is a good idea does not mean the Chargers will. After all, Metcalf is due for an extension and the Chargers would have to trade premium draft capital to obtain him. The idea of committing that many resources to one receiver may not be appealing to Jim Harbaugh or general manager Joe Hortiz.
One thing is for certain, though: the Chargers locker room would welcome Metcalf with open arms. If players on the team are already angling for a trade to happen then it is safe to say he would be a popular addition to the team.
Who knows, next time Henley posts a picture of himself and Metcalf they could both be wearing powder blue.
