Best remaining NFL free agents: 3 former Chargers crack the top 10

The list of NFL free agents in 2025 was not as exciting as previous years but there has still been a lot of activity this offseason. Many of the biggest free agents in the sport flew off the market when the legal tampering window opened, leaving a slew of free agents for other teams to consider.

While the top of the market is mostly settled, there are still a lot of talented players available who can make have real impacts in 2025 on the right teams. With several teams still owning ample cap space, these players could be on the move soon.

10 best remaining NFL free agents:

Aaron Rodgers didn't look like Aaron Rodgers in 2024 but he is still the best free agent on the board. Both can be true, especially considering quarterback is the most important position in any of the major sports.

Rodgers may no longer be a top-10 quarterback but he is good enough to lead a team on a playoff push if all the pieces around him are right. Heck, if Jalen Hurts can win a Super Bowl with the right pieces, Rodgers can make a playoff run on the right team.

Stefon Diggs would already be signed if he hadn't suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October. Some may argue that the same injury should keep him away from the No. 2 spot but he has the highest ceiling of the big-name receivers still on the market.

It was just one year ago the Houston Texans traded a second-round pick (the same package that DK Metcalf was traded for) for Diggs. His value has gone down since then but he is still a big name that will get a one-year flier contract.

With how much guards are signing for this offseason it's a surprise Teven Jenkins is still on the open market. Granted, there are some concerns with his variance and injury concerns but at his best, Jenkins is a solid guard option.

This is also a case where Jenkins played for one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the sport up until this point. At just 27 years old, Jenkins' arrow is still pointing up while many on this list are pointing down.

Speaking of arrow pointing up, Asante Samuel Jr. is still 25 years old and has more long-term potential than the other cornerback options on the market. Samuel had a weird 2024 mired by an undisclosed injury that was later revealed, by Samuel, to be a shoulder injury.

The wonky season with the Chargers and slow start under Jesse Minter does not change his long-term potential. Samuel may not be the household name that others on this list are, but he has more potential on a multi-year deal than any other cornerback option.

Keenan Allen had a down season with the Chicago Bears after being traded by the LA Chargers. Allen still had moments where he looked like he was in his prime but he couldn't consistently contribute for a Bears offense that was in flux all season.

This is the same guy that had over 1,200 yards in 13 games two years ago. Allen's best days are definitely behind him but there is plenty of reason to think he could cross the 1,000-yard threshold in 2025 on the right offense.

Most rankings not only have Amari Cooper ahead of Allen but also have the former Cowboys and Browns wideout as the No. 1 free agent available, period. While Cooper still has upside and is the same age as Allen, his regression may have hit much sooner.

Cooper averaged 39.1 yards per game last season (compared to Allen's 49.6) and was even worse once he was traded to the Bills. The veteran was practically forgotten about on the Bills, who instead of re-signing Cooper, decided to pay Joshua Palmer $36 million.

Tyron Smith is definitely past his prime but he can still be a serviceable one-year stopgap option for a team that needs a starter at right tackle. Smith allowed 22 total pressures in 10 games last season, which is far from his best, but it was not awful considering how bad the Jets were.

Smith was a second-team All-Pro in 2023 and can certainly hold his own at left tackle in a system that plays to his strengths. Any team that needs a short-team fix at left tackle should be more interested in Smith than other tackle options.

Rasul Douglas is in a similar position as other players in this list as he is a player who was great rather recently but is coming off a down year in 2024. The difference with Douglas is that his down year was much worse than others on this list.

Cornerbacks, especially as they get older, can be tricky to figure out. If Douglas lands on the right team in the right system then he could be a Pro Bowler next season. If he lands on the wrong team, Douglas may be searching for a new job again 12 months from now.

J.K. Dobbins is the best remaining free-agent running back and it is a shame there is an injury-prone narrative that is hurting his market. Dobbins has missed a lot of time but he was mostly healthy in 2024 other than a four-game IR stint that may have been the Chargers being cautious more than anything else.

Dobbins was the engine of a Chargers offense that couldn't do anything without him. His average of 4.6 yards per carry behind an awful interior offensive line should excite teams with good run blockers on the line.

Mike Hilton had a much better season than Douglas in 2024 but his limitation of only being a slot corner does impact him on these rankings. That being said, any team that has a hole to fill at slot corner should be interested in Hilton.

Hilton is far from perfect and the only thing Bengals fans will remember are the mistakes he did make in coverage. However, he has been serviceable for several years now and would be a positive addition to the right team.
