The 2026 schedule ended up being incredibly unkind to the Chargers. A brutal stretch in the middle of the season does the team absolutely no favors. The AFC West may very well be the strongest division in football. You can debate the NFC West, sure, but even Las Vegas currently looks more competitive than whatever the Arizona Cardinals are putting on the field this year. Either way, six divisional games against strong opponents already make life difficult enough for Los Angeles. Beyond that, these are the three toughest road games on the Chargers’ 2026 schedule.
3 toughest road games on the Chargers' 2026 slate
Week 4 at Seattle Seahawks
The Bills are obviously a tremendous team, and Week 3 in Buffalo will already be a major challenge. But after battling on the East Coast, the Chargers then have to travel all the way back across the country to face the defending champion Seahawks.
Seattle isn’t dealing with major roster turnover after its Super Bowl run, either. Could losing Klint Kubiak to the Raiders hurt the offense? Possibly. Looking at how Detroit adjusted after losing Ben Johnson, there’s certainly a conversation to be had. But Seattle is still a more complete team than the Lions have been, and they’ll have a significant advantage with the Chargers coming in off a physically demanding game and difficult travel stretch.
Week 4 feels pretty clearly like the toughest road game on the Chargers’ schedule.
Week 10 at Baltimore Ravens
The Jesse Minter revenge game comes at an awful time for Los Angeles. After hosting the Texans and their physical defense, the Chargers immediately head across the country for a primetime matchup in Baltimore.
For whatever reason, the NFL schedule makers consistently paired the Chargers’ toughest games with cross-country travel and physical opponents the week before. The Ravens should be improved defensively, and if anyone is going to understand how to slow down Justin Herbert, it’s the coach who practiced against him every day for two seasons.
The Chargers are hoping Mike McDaniel can elevate the offense to another level, but if there’s a defense capable of countering that, Baltimore feels like a strong candidate. This has all the makings of one of the toughest games of the year.
Week 18 at Denver Broncos
This game could ultimately decide the AFC West.
Last year’s matchup in Denver featured backups because the division race was already out of reach. This season feels completely different. The Broncos are not going away anytime soon. Whether Bo Nix becomes a superstar quarterback or not almost doesn’t matter at this point. Denver has built a legitimate roster around him, and everyone knows how difficult it is to play there.
Now add in the possibility of freezing January weather and massive playoff implications, and it becomes easy to see why this game lands on the list. If the Chargers truly expect to compete for the division and make a deep playoff run, they may have to go through one of the harshest environments in football to do it.
The Chargers have legitimate expectations entering 2026, but the road to meeting those expectations will not be easy. Between brutal travel stretches, playoff-caliber opponents, and late-season divisional pressure, this schedule is going to test whether this team is truly ready to contend.
