3. Easton Stick

There is going to be a very small contingent of Charger fans who are unhappy with Easton Stick‘s inclusion on this list. The Chargers selected Stick in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The selection did not make sense then and it still does not make sense now.

The team signed Chase Daniel to serve as Justin Herbert’s veteran backup and that was absolutely the right move. There is a lot of value in bringing in a veteran backup for a young quarterback and Stick was not going to provide the same value that someone such as Daniel can.

Keeping three quarterbacks is not super common in the NFL but it is something that some teams do and I am not ruling it out, especially if the team wants Stick to be the scout team quarterback. That really is the extent of his value on this team.

And quite frankly, there are very few situations in which having Stick be the scout team quarterback actually makes sense. The Chargers play the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 and that is the one opponent where the Chargers can try and mimic Lamar Jackson with Stick on the scout team.

He obviously is not close to being Lamar Jackson, but he can at least bring an athletic look behind center.

Stick can still be cut and be the scout-team quarterback. It would not be all that shocking if he is not part of the 53-man roster heading into Week 1.
