The LA Chargers had a pretty successful 2021 draft. Drafting a couple of talented offensive linemen, and also drafting some great all-around pieces that will add talent to their squad for the new year. Even the free agent signees they added over the offseason will be big for making a super bowl run during the new 17-game season.
While these new additions to the team will add a lot to the team and need to step up this season, there are a couple of Chargers’ veterans that will need to step up this season if the team wants to contend for their first-ever Super Bowl title in NFL history.
LA Chargers that need to step up: Drue Tranquill
With Kenneth Murray coming off a pretty good rookie season, one linebacker who saw their 2020 get cut short will need to step up.
Drue Tranquill was a very surprising addition to the team in 2019, but the linebacker from Notre Dame did not disappoint. During the 2019 season, in his 15 games played and three starts, Tranquill recorded 75 combined tackles and four tackles for a loss. 61 of those tackles were solo while the other 14 were assisted.
I know that Tranquill’s season was cut short this last year, as a result of a season-ending injury during the first game against the Bengals. Though, his production and leadership need to continue if this defense wants to be even better in 2021. Especially with the departure of Denzel Perryman to the Panthers.
Having Derwin James back this season and having Kenneth Murray step up after his rookie season will be a big push for this Chargers defense. This will be Tranquill’s third season in the NFL. He will need a big comeback season if this Chargers team wants to contend for a championship this upcoming season.
