LA Chargers mock draft if the Bolts trade down with Arizona Cardinals to 16
By Jason Reed
With the 49th overall pick, the LA Chargers select Asante Samuel Jr, CB, Florida State
Quite frankly, this is a selection that has been made on so many different LA Chargers mock drafts because it makes too much sense. However, I will say, I am not sure if Samuel falls to the Bolts in the second round in the real draft as he is one of the prospects that everyone seemingly loves in the second round.
Typically when there is a prospect like this that everyone is high on as a potential second-round sleeper they don’t end up being a second-round sleeper. But, with such a great cornerback draft class, it is possible.
Samuel checks all of the boxes that the LA Chargers are looking for. The team is going to become more dependent on man coverage on the outside and that is Samuel’s bread and butter. However, he can still produce in zone coverage, but he would have to be schemed properly as that is his area that needs to improve the most.
Samuel also played in the slot in college, giving the Bolts the versatility to move him around the field as needed. Besides his size (five-foot-ten), Samuel literally checks every box that the Chargers are looking for in an outside corner in the draft.
This would be such an elite start to the 2021 NFL Draft for the LA Chargers. Three true impact players with the first three picks is hard to come by.
