With the 185th overall pick, the LA Chargers select Tony Fields, LB, West Virginia

The LA Chargers need linebacker depth with Denzel Perryman signing with the Carolina Panthers and they get just that in Tony Fields. Fields is a developmental WILL with good football IQ and instincts. He is raw, but if developed correctly, he could eventually become an every-down backer.

Right away he will be reduced to special team duties and that is more than okay. The LA Chargers need all the special teams help they can get and his athleticism and instincts will make him an impact player in the kickoff and punt team.

This is a pick that the LA Chargers would likely make with or without a receiver at 13. The team needs a depth linebacker and could use its extra pick in the sixth to get that done.

With the 178th overall pick, the LA Chargers select Pooka Williams, RB, Kansas

I don’t know if I love taking a running back this early but this was the best route the team could go. The other potential area of need, interior defensive line, would have been a reach. Personally, I love Jerrod Doaks as a potential UDFA target, so I would not draft a running back, especially this early.

However, if the team does then the guy to go with is Pooka Williams. Williams is someone who has had success at every level and has all the tools to be part of the Chargers’ running back committee.
