4. Ricardo Allen

Ricardo Allen is a different option for safety help for the LA Chargers

If Jenkins signs elsewhere and Tre Boston is too expensive for the LA Chargers then they could take a real flier on someone such as Ricardo Allen. With the other roster needs in LA, the Chargers very well could be limited in what they spend on a safety, making Allen a candidate for the team.

Allen is not going to get a big contract after the kind of season he had in 2020 for the Atlanta Falcons. It was the worst season of his career, but he still was not downright awful.

Allen has been mediocre the last three seasons but he showed really promising signs of potential earlier in his career. He is not a Pro Bowler or anything, but as a rotational safety sharing snaps with Nasir Adderley, Allen might not be that bad of an option.

Sometimes all a naturally-gifted player needs is a change of scenery to succeed. The Atlanta Falcons defense has not been good for years now and if Brandon Staley is as good as a defensive coach as we all think then he could reignite that potential inside of Allen.

I like Allen as a signing because he would be cheap and he is on the right side of 30. He is also versatile, playing snaps at free safety, slot corner and in the box. Tom Telesco values that kind of versatility.

More names will emerge as teams continue cutting players to free up salary-cap space for the offseason. If there are enough intriguing names, I will be back at you next weekend with a new version of this article.
