4. Mike Hilton
The LA Chargers add secondary depth in Mike Hilton
The LA Chargers need to add depth in the secondary, particularly at the cornerback position. Michael Davis is a free agent and while he should be re-signed, nothing is a guarantee and the team needs more depth beyond that.
Casey Hayward and Chris Harris were both not good last season and are only getting one year older. There is the possibility of either of them being cut from the team to save salary-cap space, and if they do make it to August, then we should not expect them to suddenly turn it around from last season.
With offensive line being such a pressing need in the draft, the M-O for the Chargers this offseason might be to just stock up on cornerback depth this season before attacking a first-round cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft. Regardless, they can get depth in Mike Hilton.
Hilton is a slot corner who could be depth at the position for Harris, either when he plays outside or to simply stagger snaps to keep him fresh. Hilton is not a massive game-changing cornerback, but he has shown serious signs of potential and most importantly, he is still young.
Hilton has been in the league for four seasons, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have made two trips to the NFL Playoffs in that span and have not had a losing record. They also have had one of the best defenses in the entire league.
