LA Chargers mock draft: Letting the computer be the general manager
By Jason Reed
With the 45th overall pick, the LA Chargers select Joe Tryon, OLB, Washington
In the second round, the LA Chargers address the other side of the trenches and take Washington EDGE Joe Tryon. Tryon best projects to be an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense but has the skillset to play defensive end in an even-numbered front.
Tryon would probably have to put on some mass in order to completely fill out at defensive end, but he has the tools to succeed there. Either way, he is probably going to start right away in the NFL.
The Chargers definitely do have a need on the edge, especially if the team transitions into a 3-4 defense. The only consistent outside linebacker that the team has right now is Uchenna Nwosu and the depth at the position is quite thin.
This would instantly solve the problem for the Chargers, however, I do not think the Chargers will move to a 3-4 defense if they think they are thin to begin with. Brandon Staley made it very clear that the defense will adjust week-by-week and will pretty much center around Joey Bosa upfront.
If the Chargers really like Tryon then sure, they probably move to a 3-4 front. However, I would not be surprised if they stick with the 4-3 defense for the time being and instead draft a bigger need, such as more offensive line help or secondary help, in the second round.
It all depends on what the Chargers want to do. I really like Tryon, but I still would rather see the Bolts get another offensive lineman.
