LA Chargers: Biggest threats to sign away Hunter Henry
By Jason Reed
Hunter Henry is once again a free agent after the LA Chargers franchise-tagged the young tight end last offseason. There were still serious questions about whether or not Henry could stay healthy and he passed all of the tests in 2020.
Henry did miss the last two games of the season due to COVID-19 protocols but you cannot hold that against him with the injury-prone narrative. Henry was healthy all season and became one of Justin Herbert’s favorite targets.
Henry finished the season with 60 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns. If he would have played the final two games of the season then he probably would have crossed both the 70 receptions and 700 yards thresholds.
It is imperative that the LA Chargers re-sign Henry for a multitude of reasons. And as of right now, we have not heard any reports on if the Chargers are planning to fully commit a big contract to the tight end. However, the team did work in silence with Joey Bosa and Keenan Allen.
There is one thing that we do know for certain.
The LA Chargers are going to have competition for Hunter Henry
Hunter Henry is the best free agent in the class, is undoubtedly a top-10 tight end in the league and is still only 26 years old. He is going to get a similar deal to what Austin Hooper got last offseason and there are going to be several teams competing with the Chargers for his services.
But who are the biggest threats to sign Henry? There are certain teams that not only have the need at the position but have the cap space and could have the intrigue as well.
