Best fits for LA Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor: 4. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are in an extremely unfortunate predicament this offseason. After trading away DeAndre Hopkins last offseason and failing to construct a talented roster, the Texans were one of the worst teams in the league despite having a top-five (yes, top-five) quarterback in Deshaun Watson.

Watson now reportedly wants out of Houston and if he commits to not playing for Houston, he could find his way out to a new team.

The most likely fan scenario that has been brought up is a trade with the Miami Dolphins that would send Tua Tagovailoa, the Texans’ third overall pick and other draft capital to Houston for Watson. Miami would get their QB to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, Houston would get a young quarterback in return that could be another franchise quarterback alongside (likely) a tackle in Penei Sewell.

Whether Watson stays or is traded, the Texans are going to need to also look for a backup quarterback, as current backup A.J. McCarron is a free agent and the team certainly could do better.

Taylor would be a great veteran to bring in if the Texans trade for a young quarterback. He is talented enough to take over if there are early learning curves while also providing the veteran presence that could help a young QB blossom in the league.

Heck, if Watson is traded simply for draft capital the Texans could look for Taylor to start with a rookie quarterback sitting behind him for a year to learn — ya know, the original plan for Justin Herbert this season.
