The LA Chargers have emerged as a legitimate landing spot for Urban Meyer.

There were speculation and rumors already but on Wednesday morning the rumors were all-but-confirmed. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the LA Chargers have continued to look into Meyer and that the two sides have spoken recently.

It appeared to be a one-horse race for Meyer for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer has Florida connections and had reportedly met with Jaguars owner Shad Kahn on his private yacht. Kahn is one of the wealthiest owners in the league, so if he wants Meyer he can absolutely afford to get him.

The Chargers entering the race brings an interesting dynamic. Both the Chargers and Jaguars are coming off of losing seasons and neither are one of the marquee teams in the league, which is where you would expect someone such as Meyer to go.

However, they both have their distinct positives that make both jobs appealing for Meyer. Simply put: if Meyer wants to coach, he cannot really go wrong with either team as both teams are in a good position moving forward.

But which job is better? The Jaguars have the first overall pick and Trevor Lawrence, but the Chargers have the best rookie quarterback in NFL history, Justin Herbert. The Chargers have certain roster advantages, the Jaguars have certain outside-of-football advantages.

This is not about whether or not the Chargers should or should not pursue Meyer, just about the advantages of both jobs and which one I would personally take if I were in Meyer’s shoes.
